Our Approach

Clean Energy, Guided by Country

Sustainability is central to how Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation plans, develops and operates renewable energy projects on Country.

For YEC, sustainability means aligning clean energy development with cultural responsibility, environmental protection and long term economic opportunity. This reflects the same principles that underpin our governance and partnership model, including Indigenous leadership, shared decision making and long term ownership.

Clear Governance for Responsible Development

Our approach is guided by clear policies and governance frameworks that support responsible development, transparency and accountability. Consideration of environmental values, cultural heritage, health and safety and community benefit is integrated into every stage of project planning and delivery.

Renewable energy aligns with the Yindjibarndi Three Cs model of Community, Culture and Commercial. Through YEC, commercial success supports cultural continuity, community wellbeing and self determination across generations.

Leading the Pilbara’s Clean Energy Transition

The Pilbara is central to Australia’s energy transition. As one of the nation’s most important industrial regions, it is also one of its most emissions intensive.

Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation was established to help meet this challenge in a way that reflects Indigenous leadership, responsibility on Country and long term value creation. Through projects such as Jinbi and Baru Marnda, YEC is contributing to the scale of renewable energy generation required to support decarbonisation across the Pilbara.

Together, these projects have the potential to deliver renewable generation at a scale greater than Western Australia’s largest coal fired power station. This capacity can directly support the decarbonisation and electrification of Pilbara mining and industrial operations, while enabling emerging industries such as green hydrogen, green ammonia and green steel.

In doing so, YEC is helping position the Pilbara as a globally significant renewable energy region, embedding First Nations equity and governance into Western Australia’s energy transition.
