About the project

The Jinbi Project is Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation’s first solar development, located on a greenfield site within Exclusive Native Title land in the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Area in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The project comprises an initial 75MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) array, with potential expansion to up to 150MWac, and an option to integrate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Jinbi is being developed to provide clean, reliable energy while embedding Indigenous leadership, ownership and long term benefit on Yindjibarndi Country.

In 2023, YEC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Rio Tinto to explore collaboration on renewable energy projects. The project reached Financial Close in May 2026, confirming that all key funding, approvals and contractual arrangements are in place. A long term Power Purchase Agreement has been executed with Rio Tinto for 100 per cent of Stage 1 generation. Following Financial Close, construction has commenced, with early site works already underway. Full commercial operations are expected in mid 2028, marking the commencement of the 30 year PPA supply period.
