About the project

The Eastern Development Zone (EDZ) is a large‑scale renewable energy project led by Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation, comprising up to 1GW of wind generation, 500MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) infrastructure.

The EDZ is strategically positioned to support both new and existing energy infrastructure in the Pilbara.

The project is situated approximately 50 kilometres from the proposed Hamersley Range transmission corridor and 80 kilometres from major mining operations, providing strong integration potential with:

  • Future transmission infrastructure
  • Existing industrial energy demand centres
  • Large‑scale renewable energy generation and storage

The EDZ is being developed as a flexible, staged project designed to respond to market demand, infrastructure availability and regulatory approvals, while supporting the long‑term decarbonisation of the Pilbara.
