A major step towards Indigenous-led renewable energy development on Traditional Owner land has been reached with the registration of the Indigenous Land Use Agreement for the Yindjibarndi Renewable Energy Project (YREP ILUA) by the National Native Title Tribunal.

Under the guidance, YEC and NYFL have signed an MoU to work together on activities that provide social outcomes and enhanced self-determination for the Ieramugadu (Roebourne) Traditional Owner community.

We are thrilled to share that Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) and Rio Tinto have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities to collaborate on renewable energy projects on Yindjibarndi country.

YEC has been granted a Section 91 Licence to Occupy Crown Land under the Land Administration Act 1997 (WA). This licence now means YEC has permission to start on-ground investigations, including the installation of wind and solar monitoring equipment to validate initial resource evaluation.

Representing one of the largest Indigenous-led renewable energy initiatives in Australia, YEC will see the Yindjibarndi people and ACEN work together to develop wind, solar, and renewable energy storage projects on Yindjibarndi Ngurra – an area covering approximately 13,000 km2 within the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Areas.
