The project

The Jinbi Project is Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation’s first solar development, located on a greenfield site within Exclusive Native Title land in the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Area in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The project comprises an initial 75MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) array, with potential expansion to up to 150MWac, and an option to integrate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Jinbi is being developed to provide clean, reliable energy while embedding Indigenous leadership, ownership and long‑term benefit on Yindjibarndi Country.

In 2023, YEC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Rio Tinto to explore collaboration on renewable energy projects. Subject to approvals, Jinbi is intended to connect to Rio Tinto’s existing transmission infrastructure, enabling efficient integration with established industrial energy systems in the Pilbara.

Jinbi is currently in the development stage and has received key approvals, including environmental approval in early 2024, development application approval from the Shire of Ashburton, and Lead Agency Status in 2024. The project is progressing toward investment decision and construction in line with YEC’s staged development approach.
